Friday, May 7, 2010 Catholic Charities, MEND and the Nutrition Meeting Network "7th Annual Essex County" Asked by MEND organizer to attend to provide nutrition information to participants. Provided water and raisins with nutrition messages. Had information table with information about exercise, calcium, SNAP Benefits, eating fruits and vegetables and MyPyramid.
Tuesday, December 8, 2009 Holy Trinity Lutheran Church - East Orange "Outreach Meeting" Offered an in-depth informational session about Faithfully Fit and the beneficial resources for a church community. Presented a "Show and Tell" session at the "Emergency Needs with Dignity" meeting and highlighted the Faithfully Fit "Poster of the Month Club," one page fact sheets, and nutrition messages. Encouraged members to consider using these resources to service their congregation. Houses of worship find these resources to be intriguing and enhance their health and nutrition ministry.
Wednesday, November 18, 2009 Franklin St. John's UME - Newark "Instructional Lesson Session" Provided five minute learning session on the importance of having breakfast that includes whole grains and cereal. Worked with Mrs. Pamela Ballard a nutrition educator with the NJ Extended Food and Nutrition Program (EFNEP)to engage food pantry clientele in discussion and to expose two students from Montclair State University to community nutrition outreach.
Thursday, November 12, 2009 Mount Zion AME-New Brunswick "Health Fair" Participated in FALL HEALTH FAIR for FAMILY & FRIENDS. Worked with Praise Healthy Ministry (Linda Bright); Provided table with health information about Salt, Sugar, SNAP Benefits, Eating Fruits and Vegetables as well as Exercise.
Wednesday, October 28, 2009 Abyssinian Baptist Church - Newark "Health Fair" Worked with Mrs. Ida B. Williams and church health ministry to provide information table for a health screening/fair event dedicated to women. A strong focus of the fair was cancer and survival. Having a nutrition presence among the other vendors was important in emphasizing that there is a strong connection between good nutrition/exercise and general health/longevity.
