NJ NUTRITION COUNCIL

The NJ Nutrition Council promotes better health by serving as a coordinating organization for those individuals and groups interested in nutrition and nutrition education. The Council’s membership includes dieticians, family and consumer science educators, health professionals, college professors, teachers, school nurses, physical educators and social workers. In order to assure that New Jersey residents receive accurate nutrition information, members of the Nutrition Council participate in health fairs, professional development meetings, and sponsor the Nutritionist of the Year and Nutrition Educator of the Year awards. The Nutrition council sponsors speakers on nutrition topics for professional meetings, assists in sponsoring activities and publications for National Nutrition Month and coordinates activities with the NJ SNAP-Ed Support Network. The Council was instrumental in developing a creative way to demonstrate portions and serving sizes. The SNAP-Ed Support Network is currently collaborating on ways to improve the calcium counter, which is contained in the "Calcium In Lead Out" brochure to make it more user friendly for low-lit audiences. The NJ SNAP-Ed Support Network is planning a conference in conjunction with the Nutrition Council, American Cancer Society, NJ Dietetic Association, and the MidAtlantic Dairy Council. The Conference will be held at Rutgers University on April 17th and will focus on Childhood Obesity.
