Network Partners - Trade/Voluntary Health Agencies

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY

SNAP-Ed Program welcomes ACS as the most recent member of the Support Network. This partnership enables ACS to network with organizations that serve limited resource audiences. Statistics show that the African American and Hispanic populations have the highest cancer rates in the United States. This relationship provides a direct opportunity to market nutrition education programs as preventive healthcare to the SNAP-Ed Program population. The American Cancer Society has developed the Generation Fit Program for youth ages 11-18. It contains five health-related community service learning projects that provide reinforcement of nutrition and activity behaviors that will enhance students' activities in their communities and schools. Activities include promoting healthy eating/physical activity with peers, working on community hunger issues, working with a partner to improve personal nutrition/fitness habits, and improving the quality of school lunches. The SNAP-Ed Support Network and ACS are collaborating on how to merge and expand distribution channels for both programs in classroom settings, after school programs and school lunch programs.
